Located in the Diné (Navajo) reservation, Canyon de Chelly has a long history of human habitation, at least 5,000 years. The Diné, who continue to reside in the Canyon, have personal and painful memories involving their relationship to European-Americans. The three ruins illustrated were built by ancient Puebloan people. Further information is available at the National Park Service.
